Complaints & Appeals
IABCET recognizes the importance of fair, transparent, and accountable processes for addressing concerns related to accreditation activities, services, procedures, or applicable accreditation decisions. This page provides information about complaints and appeals and how stakeholders may seek appropriate review.
Our Commitment to Fairness and Accountability
An effective accreditation system should provide appropriate mechanisms for concerns to be raised and decisions to be reviewed where applicable. IABCET is committed to handling complaints and appeals in a structured and responsible manner consistent with applicable policies and procedures.
Complaints
A complaint may be appropriate when an individual or organization believes there has been a concern regarding an IABCET process, service, administrative action, conduct, or other matter within IABCET’s area of responsibility.
Appeals
An appeal is a formal request for review of an applicable accreditation decision or outcome where an appeal right is provided under the relevant IABCET procedure.
Complaints
A complaint may be appropriate when an individual or organization believes that there has been a concern regarding an IABCET process, service, administrative action, conduct, or other matter within IABCET’s area of responsibility.
Examples of Matters That May Be Raised
- Concerns regarding the administration of an accreditation process
- Concerns regarding communication or administrative handling
- Concerns regarding adherence to applicable procedures
- Concerns regarding professional conduct
- Other matters that fall within IABCET’s responsibility
Complaints should provide sufficient information to allow the matter to be understood and appropriately reviewed.
How to Submit a Complaint
A complaint should normally be submitted in writing and should clearly describe the concern, the relevant circumstances, and any supporting documentation available.
Information to Include
- Name and contact information of the person or organization submitting the complaint
- A clear description of the concern
- The relevant IABCET activity, application, accreditation, or service
- Relevant dates and reference numbers, where available
- Supporting documents or evidence, where appropriate
- The outcome or resolution being requested, where applicable
Complaints should be submitted through the official IABCET contact channels. Additional submission procedures or documentation requirements may apply depending on the nature of the complaint.
Complaint Review
Complaints may be reviewed to determine whether the matter falls within IABCET’s responsibility and whether further investigation or action is appropriate. Where necessary, additional information may be requested from the person or organization submitting the complaint or from other relevant parties.
Complaints should be handled objectively and with appropriate consideration for confidentiality and procedural fairness.
Appeals
An appeal is a formal request for review of an applicable accreditation decision or outcome where an appeal right is provided under the relevant IABCET procedure.
Appeals are distinct from general complaints. A complaint generally raises a concern about a process, service, conduct, or administrative matter, whereas an appeal seeks review of an applicable accreditation decision.
Who May Submit an Appeal?
An applicant or accredited organization may submit an appeal where the applicable accreditation procedure provides an appeal right. The person or organization submitting the appeal should demonstrate that the matter falls within the applicable appeal procedure.
Grounds for Appeal
An appeal should identify the decision being challenged and provide clear reasons why the appellant believes the decision should be reviewed. Supporting evidence should be provided where available.
Depending on the applicable procedure, grounds for appeal may include an alleged procedural error, relevant evidence that was not appropriately considered, or another substantive matter permitted under the applicable IABCET requirements.
Appeal Process
01. Submit the Appeal
The appellant submits the appeal within the applicable timeframe and provides the required information and supporting evidence.
02. Initial Review
The appeal is reviewed to determine whether it meets the applicable submission and eligibility requirements.
03. Review & Evaluation
Relevant information and supporting evidence are considered in accordance with the applicable procedure.
04. Decision
The appeal is determined according to the applicable IABCET process and requirements.
05. Notification
The appellant is informed of the outcome and any applicable next steps.
Impartiality and Conflicts of Interest
Individuals involved in reviewing a complaint or appeal should act objectively and appropriately manage any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest. Where necessary, an individual may be excluded from a review where a conflict could affect impartiality.
Confidentiality
Information submitted as part of a complaint or appeal may contain confidential or sensitive information. IABCET should handle such information responsibly and in accordance with applicable policies, legal requirements, and operational procedures.
Individuals submitting complaints or appeals should avoid providing unnecessary personal or confidential information that is not relevant to the matter under review.
False or Misleading Information
Complaints and appeals should be submitted honestly and in good faith. Information that is knowingly false, misleading, fraudulent, or submitted for an improper purpose may be subject to appropriate action under applicable IABCET procedures.
Relationship to Accreditation Decisions
Important: Submitting a complaint or appeal does not automatically change an accreditation status or decision. Any change to an accreditation decision or status will occur only through the applicable IABCET review and decision-making process.
