ACCREDITATION STANDARDS

Standards That Define the Foundation of IABCET Accreditation

IABCET accreditation standards establish the expectations used to evaluate eligible institutions, educational organizations, continuing education providers, and programs within a defined accreditation scope.

The standards provide the foundation for a structured system connecting requirements, evidence, assessment, external evaluation, accreditation decisions, continuing review, and improvement.

THE STANDARDS SYSTEM

Requirements Become Meaningful Through Evidence and Evaluation

Standards establish expectations. Criteria make those expectations assessable, while evidence demonstrates implementation and evaluation supports an informed accreditation decision.

01
Defined accreditation expectations
02
Scope-specific criteria and requirements
03
Documented evidence and evaluation
04
Accreditation decisions and continuing improvement
THE ROLE OF STANDARDS

A Defined Reference Point for Accreditation

Accreditation standards establish a common reference point for examining whether an eligible organization, provider, institution, or program has appropriate structures, educational practices, resources, controls, documentation, and quality-assurance processes within its approved scope.

They help translate broad commitments to educational effectiveness and accountability into requirements that can be understood, implemented, documented, assessed, evaluated, and improved.

Standards also provide a foundation for consistency. Applicants can prepare against defined expectations, evaluators can examine evidence against applicable requirements, and accreditation decisions can be connected to the documented evaluation process.

The applicable standards depend on the accreditation pathway and scope. Institutional accreditation, provider accreditation, and program accreditation therefore require organizations to identify the correct framework before preparing an application.

STANDARDS IN PRACTICE

From Expectation to Demonstrated Practice

A strong accreditation system connects what an organization says it does with evidence showing how its systems and educational practices operate in practice.

01
Define the applicable expectation
02
Document the relevant process or practice
03
Provide appropriate evidence
04
Evaluate implementation and effectiveness

APPLICABLE SCOPE

Standards Are Applied According to the Accreditation Pathway

IABCET accreditation is scope-specific. The requirements applied to an institution, provider, or program are determined by the nature and approved scope of the accreditation activity.

INSTITUTIONAL

Institutional Accreditation

Standards are applied to eligible institutions and their defined educational operations, organizational systems, governance, resources, academic or educational practices, and quality-assurance arrangements within the approved scope.

Institutional Accreditation

PROGRAM

Program Accreditation

Standards are applied to eligible programs within a defined scope. Depending on the applicable framework, this may include continuing education, professional, technical, diploma, postgraduate, or other eligible educational programs.

Program Accreditation

PROVIDER

Continuing Education Provider Accreditation

Standards are applied to eligible providers delivering continuing education, professional development, CPE, CEU, PDU-oriented, technical, healthcare, medical, occupational safety and health, and other applicable educational activities.

Provider Accreditation

EDUCATIONAL SCOPE

Standards Across Continuing, Professional & Academic Education

IABCET’s accreditation framework is designed to support eligible educational activities across continuing education, professional learning, technical education, professional training, and applicable academic education.

Within applicable accreditation scope, programs may include courses, continuing education programs, diploma programs, technical programs and degrees, professional programs, postgraduate programs, Master’s degrees, professional Master’s degrees, MBA and comparable postgraduate programs, Doctoral degrees, professional Doctorates, and other eligible postgraduate and professional qualifications.

Eligibility and accreditation scope are determined according to the applicable requirements and evaluation framework. Program type alone does not establish accreditation eligibility or accreditation status.

Bachelor’s degree programs are outside the program scope described for IABCET accreditation.

PROGRAM SCOPE

Defined Scope Protects the Meaning of Accreditation

Accreditation applies to the approved scope identified through the applicable accreditation process. It should not automatically be interpreted as extending to every educational offering delivered by an organization.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Standards for Structured Continuing Education

Continuing education can involve different educational formats, disciplines, learner populations, credit systems, and delivery models. Accreditation standards provide a structured basis for evaluating the systems supporting those activities.

Learning & Credit Hours

Where applicable, continuing education activities may use defined learning hours or credit-hour structures to document participation, learning, and completion in a consistent manner.

Credit-Hour Framework

CPE, CEU & Related Frameworks

Eligible providers may use applicable CPE, CEU, PDU, or related continuing-education frameworks according to the requirements governing the activity and its intended use.

CPE & CEU

Records & Documentation

Appropriate records can support confirmation of participation, learning activity, credit information, completion, and certificates or other educational records where applicable.

Certificates & Records

EVIDENCE & DOCUMENTATION

Standards Must Be Demonstrated Through Evidence

IABCET accreditation is evidence-based. Organizations preparing for evaluation should be able to demonstrate how applicable requirements are implemented through current, relevant, organized, and verifiable evidence.

Depending on the accreditation pathway, evidence may include governance documents, policies and procedures, organizational records, curriculum and course materials, learning objectives, instructional resources, personnel qualifications, learner-support processes, assessment methods, evaluation results, completion records, certificates, quality-assurance records, and documented improvement activities.

Evidence should allow evaluators to understand not only what an organization intends to do, but how its systems operate and how educational activities are monitored and improved.

EVIDENCE QUALITY

Useful Evidence Is Connected to the Requirement

01
Relevant to the applicable requirement
02
Current and appropriately maintained
03
Organized for effective review
04

IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE

Standards Do Not Create Accreditation by Themselves

Accreditation is determined through the complete applicable framework. Publishing standards or demonstrating compliance with individual requirements does not, by itself, establish accredited status.

Requirements

Organizations must understand the complete requirements applicable to their accreditation pathway and approved scope.

Review Criteria

Evaluation

Evidence is reviewed through the applicable assessment and evaluation process rather than through self-declaration alone.

Evaluation Process

Accreditation Decision

Accreditation status follows the applicable formal decision process and should be interpreted according to the approved scope and current status.
